Coleochaete irregularis – Bristles and branches
This T-shirt motif features Coleochaete irregularis, a freshwater green alga and close relative of land plants. Its irregular, branched form is fringed with distinctive “chaetae” — bristle-like outgrowths that give the genus its name. These hair-like spikes are thought to help deter grazers. A microscopic plant ancestor, captured in 19th-century botanical detail.
